It is official! After months and months of speculations, Dan Snyder has officially confirmed the sale of the Washington Commanders franchise to a group including the Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris and the NBA legend Magic Johnson in a historic deal. Both sides announced the deal in a joint statement on Friday.
Dan Snyder sold the Commanders football team to Josh Harris and Magic Johnson for a record-breaking deal worth $6.05 billion according to multiple reports. This deal is the highest money paid for a North American sports franchise breaking the previous record of $4.55 billion Robert Walton paid to acquire the Denver Broncos from Pat Bowlen Estate.
“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement for the sale of the Commanders franchise with Josh Harris, an area native, and his impressive group of partners,” Snyder and his wife, Tanya, said in the statement. “We look forward to the prompt completion of this transaction and to rooting for Josh and the team in the coming years.”
The sale is still pending as it requires the approval of three-quarters of the owner and some closing procedures from the league. It seems like there will be no problem in getting the approval of three-quarters of the NFL owners as many of them are allegedly more than happy to see the back of Dan Snyder, who has been getting into a lot of trouble in recent times.
The Commanders and Dan Snyder are still under investigation for a toxic work environment and sexual assault allegations. Snyder being away from the league would be a good thing for the NFL.
Social media reacts to Magic Johnson becoming the part owner of the Commanders
The Commanders fans on social media are ecstatic about the NBA legend Magic Johnson becoming a part owner of their historic franchise. More than that, the fans are happy to see the back of their long-time owner, Dan Snyder. Check out some of the reactions below!
Under Snyder, the Commanders haven’t achieved anything. The team has more name changes than they have Super Bowl appearances under Daniel Snyder. Furthermore, Snyder also got into trouble for toxic workplace culture which ruined the reputation of the historic franchise.
And now, under the new regime, the Washington-based football team might have success going forward. Josh Harris and Magic Johnson have done a great leading the NBA franchise Philadelphia 76ers and their experience would come in handy in bringing back the Commanders to relevancy.
