“Expect him to be prepared”: Watch out Tyler Smith, Dak Prescott expects the lineman to DELIVER in his rookie season

Dak Prescott and Tyler Smith

The Dallas Cowboys shocked a lot of people this year in the NFL Draft by picking OL Tyler Smith from Tulsa, despite being talented, Smith was the last person any analyst could have predicted Jerry Jones would spend his first pick on, and of course, fans were confused over this. Tyler Smith has already gotten a taste of the harsh realities of being a professional athlete, fans may not have seen you play a game but will waste no time in doubting you, which is exactly how his introduction to the Dallas region went down.

Tyler Smith is expected to replace Tyron Smith in the future, Tyron is a Pro Bowl OL who is arguably the best lineman on the Dallas Cowboys but he will be out for most of this season as he has suffered a knee injury. However, this is a great chance for Tyler Smith to prove what he’s made of in week 1 when Dallas faces off against Brady and the Bucs.

Dak Prescott believes Tyler Smith is in the same spot he was as a rookie in the NFL:

Tyler Smith was attempting to land the role of the starting left guard position before having to shift one spot and perform the most important role, protect Dak Prescott. That is a lot to ask from a rookie who has first of all been doubted, a rookie who has gained a notorious reputation in college football for the commission of penalties. That is something that you should worry about, if you are the Dallas Cowboys, the team already has an ongoing issue with limiting its penalties, and now, with Tyler Smith on the starting lineup, that penalty count could go higher.

Quarterback Dak Prescott, however, stands by his teammate and understands the situation he is in. Tyler Smith was not expected to start this season but due to circumstances, he is forced to start. If you recall, Dak Prescott was not supposed to start in his rookie year either, he was the third option in his position as the starter’s role was safe in the hands of Tony Romo until he sustained a back injury. Following Romo’s injury, his backup, Kellen Moore also ended up getting injured which led Dak Prescott to start.

At the time, this series of events may have traumatized all Cowboys fans and left them aghast but what they perceived to be a bad situation turned out to be the best for the team as they found a young star and the future of their franchise in quarterback Dak Prescott who has held on to the starter’s role ever since.

Prescott is expecting the same to happen with Tyler Smith, come Sunday, he will be ready to go to war with the Cowboys. “When you hang around Tyler, you see the competitor, the fighter. You see the football player, the grit, and I expect him to be prepared. I was in his position years ago. If there’s anyone who is supporting the next man up and is about that mentality, it’s me. I’m here to support him and give him the most confidence that he needs,” Prescott had nothing but praise for Smith and his potential.

Will Tyler Smith become another diamond in the rough like Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and Dak Prescott or will he be a player like Ezekiel Elliott who has a stellar season or two and then ends up becoming just good enough to be in the NFL? Only time will tell.
