The Minnesota Vikings have let go of running back Dalvin Cooks after six years, and ESPN’s Jeff Darlington believes he is headed to the Miami Dolphins. The 27-year-old Cook, who also led the Vikings as team captain for two seasons, is now a free agent and has complete liberty to choose his next destination. Several franchises are looking to add Cook to their roster.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said they will “turn the stones over” in order to sign Dalvin Cook. It might be music to the ears of Jets fans, as they might see Aaron Rodgers and Dalvin Cook line up together.
Besides the Jets, the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills have also inquired about Cook’s asking price. However, the four-time pro bowler won’t come cheap if you consider his record. Cook, in his six seasons in the NFL with the Vikings, rushed for 5,993 yards and 47 touchdowns. Those are numbers from an elite player, and teams need to move quickly in order to sign him.
However, rumors and recent developments suggest that Cook may be hinting at moving back to his hometown. Jeff Darlington stamped his seal of approval on the rumors, saying, “He will be surprised if he (Dalvin Cook) doesn’t end up in Miami.”
Moreover, earlier today, senior ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed that the Vikings owe Cook around $2 million, so he’s being patient for now.
Dalvin Cook will be the perfect compliment to an already-balanced Dolphins squad
Dalvin Cook’s joining the Miami Dolphins will be an exciting time in South Florida. The Dolphins already have a strong lineup, with quarterback Tua Tagoviloa leading the charge. 2020’s fifth overall pick out of Alabama, Tagovailoa, had his best season last term, leading the nation in passer rating.
Not just the Dolphins QB, but wide receiver Tyreek Hill is another prospect that will pair with Cook. Hill already has a great understanding with Tagoviloa, and the duo is aiming to achieve 2000 yards next season.
Cook is a leader, as pointed out by Minnesota coach Kevin O’Connell: “Dalvin is a tough, dynamic player and a respected leader by his teammates.”
His leadership skills could come in handy for grooming Tagovailoa, who demonstrated his management skills last week during practice. It’s no surprise that Cook has the potential to team up with such talented players, which will excite Dolphins fans.
Moreover, they can start looking forward to the next season possibly ending up in the Super Bowl. Cook will surely be a great addition to the Dolphins.
