Damar Hamlin update: Father addresses Bills, reveals he is ‘making progress’

In a heart-soothing development, Mario Hamlin, father of the injured Damar Hamlin, has provided some good news on his son’s recovery. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Mario on a Zoom call on Wednesday informed the whole Bills staff that Damar is improving.
Mario informed the Bills that Damar was making progress and, in the words of one source, “the team needed it.”
Following yesterday’s message from the Bills, who also stated that Hamlin is making improvement, comes this encouraging news. Even though Hamlin is still in critical condition after collapsing on the field on Monday night, his family and team are relieved to hear that he is making an improvement.
Damar Hamlin is currently fighting for his life after incurring a tragic injury in the first quarter of the Bills-Bengals game during the NFL week 17 matchup. The Bills safety fell to the ground after colliding with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. However, Hamlin got up quickly after the tackle but went down immediately and collapsed on the field.
The situation was quite frantic as medical personnel rushed to the field to attend to the 24-year-old, who wasn’t even breathing at the time. Bills safety was immediately given CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), and an ambulance was called immediately to take Hamlin to the nearest hospital.
The Bills-Bengals game was momentarily suspended as every single player on the field looked distraught and heartbroken. Some of the Bills players couldn’t stop the tears from running out of their eyes and prayed for the health of their delightful teammate.
The Bills organization later gave a statement accepting that Hamlin had suffered a cardiac arrest mid-game and was promptly taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further treatment.
Hamlin’s mother, Nina, was present at the game and was quickly taken from the stands to accompany her 24-year-old son as he goes through such a terrible and arduous journey. The league’s players’ association wrote in a statement: “We have been in touch with Bills and Bengals players and with the NFL. The only thing that matters at this moment is Damar’s health and well-being.”

Hamlin is currently under intensive care and needs prayers from everyone around him. The NFL world was shocked after the news was released. The Bills players looked agitated and emotional at the same time as they were trying to gather thoughts and keep composure while waiting on the field as their teammate was fighting for his dear life.
“There’s nothing in consideration right now,” Bills’ Von Miller said. “Our concern is for the player and his well-being. At the appropriate time, I’m sure that we’ll have a conversation around the next steps regarding the game.” The NFL is yet to announce any update on the game and how it will be included in the final week schedule.
Damar Hamlin needs support and prayers from everyone around him as the Bills’ safety is still in critical condition, even though his father admitted some positive progress.
