“No violations,” The NFL and NFLPA’s joint investigation acquit the Miami Dolphins from violation of the concussion protocol over QB Tua Tagovailoa

Tua Tagovailoa suffered his second concussion of the season.

Tua Tagovailoa has had a rollercoaster of a ride this season. While the quarterback has had the best season of his career starting for the Miami Dolphins, his health has been a cause of concern. Tua has sustained two concussions in this season. The first one sent a major scare across the NFL as the quarterback was brought down on his back by a defender and while many speculated that he had suffered a concussion, the diagnosis by one of the doctors authorized by the NFLPA claimed otherwise.

The doctor was eventually let go by the NFLPA as Tua Tagovailoa suffered a horrific concussion the following week. Last week, the quarterback faced another injury scare against the Green Bay Packers as he was placed in concussion protocol the following day. Many believe the quarterback should have been taken out in the middle of the game and placed into protocol immediately and the NFL, along with the NFLPA, conducted a review of the decision taken by the Dolphins.

As per the league’s rules, if a player shows slight symptoms of a concussion, he has to be taken out and immediately placed into concussion protocol. The league concluded its joint review after looking into the matter and determined that the team had not violated any protocols. Tua took a hit in the second quarter of the game when his head hit the turf hard. However, the investigation looked into if the QB should have been examined following this hit.

Tua Tagovailoa showed no symptoms of a concussion in the game against the Packers:

Tua Tagovailoa was placed in concussion protocol just in time.

The league issued the following statement, “The NFL and NFLPA concluded their joint review of the application of concussion protocol involving Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. The joint review determined the protocol was not triggered. The protocol is initiated when a player receives an impact to the head and exhibits or reports signs or symptoms suggestive of a concussion.”

The statement continues, “The review established that symptoms of a concussion were neither exhibited nor reported until the following day, at which time the team medical personnel appropriately evaluated and placed Mr. Tagovailoa in the concussion protocol.”

The Dolphins OC Darrell Bevell stated that he “saw some things in the game,” after the fall. He was indirectly hinting that something was different about the quarterback after the hit and, had he been examined, there may have been symptoms of a head injury. Tua Tagovailoa needs to be extremely careful as he has had two concussions in just one season and his condition has scared fans and has them concerned.
