Finally, after more than a year without a team and contemplating where Odell Beckham Jr. will land, fans breathed a sigh of relief as the Ravens signed the superstar wide receiver. OBJ signed a one-year deal worth $18 million.

Everyone in the league was excited about Baltimore signing OBJ and Eagles star cornerback Darius Slay also pitched in and gave his two cents on the trade. Slay said that Odell Beckham Jr. is still a very talented receiver and does his job at the highest level. However, he did add that fans want OBJ to play like the first three years of his career, which after going through two knee injuries doesn’t seem likely.

The Ravens are lacking serious firepower in the receiving corps and they tried answering that by signing OBJ, which ticked Darius Slay. He said on his podcast Big Play Slay, “I heard a lot of others news, but I’m gonna keep the news to myself that’s probably gonna wanna go over there too. I heard a lot of other stuff [about] other people wanting to go over there. But we’re gonna stay tuned.”

Slay did acknowledge the fact that the Ravens are trying to surround Lamar Jackson with weapons on the offense to try and get him to stay in Baltimore. Beckham himself said during his introductory press conference on Thursday that he didn’t get a definite answer from the 2019 NFL MVP about his future with the Ravens.

Everyone is curious to know what Darius Slay heard about OBJ. The Ravens signing the 30-year-old receiver does send a message that they are willing to pay everyone but Lamar Jackson. The final decision lies with the quarterback on whether he wants to play on the franchise tag or sit out for the 2023 season and take his chances on a team signing him.

Darius Slay recently responded to a tweet by PFF asking who is the best WR2 in the league. Slay wrote, We don’t have a wr2.” Zach Pascal made his way to the Cardinals in the offseason, leaving the receiving corps in Philadelphia bleak.

The Eagles now have just AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith on the roster. The team had a magical run last year as they made it all the way to the Super Bowl, but came up short. Receivers make up most of the offense and if there aren’t any good WR2 for Jalen Hurts to throw to, then the franchise might not have another chance to get their second Lombardi Trophy.

Philly has six picks in hand in the 2023 NFL draft which is just a couple of weeks away. The team will definitely try to sign good and stalwart receivers and polish them to become stars on the offense.
