Arizona Cardinals wide-receiver and Pro-bowler DeAndre Hopkins have tested positive for using PEDs or Performance Enhancing Drugs. The league has suspended him for 6 games. The wideout has publicly stated that he was “confused and shocked,” over the results.

Hopkins released a statement on his Instagram profile where he said, “very mindful of what I put in my body and have always taken a holistic approach, so I am working with my team to investigate how this could’ve happened.”

DeAndre Hopkins claims he was ‘confused and shocked’ over his drug test results returning positive

He also apologized to Cardinals fans, the organization, and all of his teammates by stating that he has not been “Careful enough.” Hopkins added, “I never want to let my team down, I fully intend to get to the bottom of this, as soon as I have more information, I will share it.”

What is more surprising is that the test in question came back positive in November of 2021, so Hopkins and his team had ought to know about it. The league tested him in October and December months as well, however, those test results were negative. The November drug test showed traces of PEDs in his system.

The Pro Bowl receiver will nearly lose $5 million this season due to the suspension

By this point, he should have already gotten to the bottom of the situation and could have anticipated the suspension. The league has mentioned that DeAndre will be allowed to train with the Cardinals and also participate in the NFL preseason. The wideout was injured last season which led to him missing a total of seven games in the regular season. He finished with 572 yards and 8 TDs on 42 catches.

There is a chance that the Arizona Cardinals saw this suspension coming and hence decided to trade for receiver Hollywood Brown from the Baltimore Ravens. What has also been in question is the NFL’s punishment policy. Earlier Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley faced suspension for an entire season as he placed a bet worth $1200. The punishment metrics of the league appear to be skewed and at times appear unreasonable.
