DeAndre Hopkins is currently one of the best receivers in the league. His numbers are immaculate as he currently leads the NFL in receptions. However, the Cardinals have shown interest in trading the quality WR as they are currently looking forward to a rebuild.

Hopkins is 31 years old and moving past his prime. Although his numbers don’t state it, his speed has decreased considerably. Regardless, there’s something special about the WR that makes him attractive to many teams, including the New England Patriots.

The Cardinals fired HC Kliff Kingsbury and their GM also resigned. These were subtle indicators that helped them believe that they are moving towards a rebuild where a 31-year-old WR isn’t required.

There are numerous teams interested in Hopkins, however, the most strongly linked team is the Patriots. The WR and HC Bill Belichick share a great relationship that was vividly evident during the Hard Knocks episode from the Patriots-Cardinals game.

“I’m glad we only have to play you every four years, man,” Belichick said, as captured by HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” “… What a career you’re having. You missed half the season, still going to lead the league in receiving.” Belichick is mightily impressed with Hopkins if one were to believe these words.

“I love you, man,” Hopkins replied. “You know I do my job.” This subtle interaction between Hopkins and Belichick helped people believe that the Patriots would be interested in the 31-year-old WR.

Hopkins is quite fortunate as Bill Belichick has been vocal about his appreciation for the Cardinals WR. The Patriots’ HC is known to keep his thoughts and views to himself. Therefore, it came quite as a surprise when he openly praised Hopkins.

Belichick also compared Hopkins with Hall of Famer Chris Carter and believes that he is currently the best in his position in the entire league. The Cardinals WR also shares a mutual respect for the legendary HC and has admired him time and time again in various interviews.

The Patriots can be an ideal destination for Hopkins, as their current receiving roster is outdated and needs updating. Though they have quality receivers, no one has special aspects to their game that Hopkins can offer. QB Mac Jones will appreciate the support that the 31-year-old will provide and their partnership has the potential to be extremely lethal.

Unfortunately, DeAndre Hopkins won’t be able to sign as a free agent. The 31-year-old still has 2 years remaining on the Cardinals’ contract and if the Patriots want to acquire him, they will have to manage an expensive trade for him.
