Derek Wolfe had a great football career and was one of the most feared defensive end’s during his time. The former Ravens DE played 10 seasons in the league before hanging up his cleats for good.
Wolfe’s 10 seasons in the NFL were pretty gruesome and brutal according to his recent revelations. The Super Bowl winner recently featured on the infamous Joe Rogan show where he was pretty vocal about the brutal world of NFL and how injuries are actually treated.
Wolfe spoke about the injury he picked up against the Seahawks in 2013 and how it defined his whole career. The DE had bruised his spinal cord during the preseason game against the Seahawks. Wolfe was visibly shaken by the injury and wasn’t able to move.
The doctors present there advised him to stay at the hospital. However, the Broncos team doctors suggested he should travel with the team after suffering a brutal injury.
“I couldn’t move. I was just stuck in the ground. It was like I was melted, it was the weirdest feeling, man. The doctors wanted me to stay in the hospital, but the team doctors were like “you’re good, we can go” on the team plane back to Denver.” Derek Wolfe stated on the Joe Rogan experience. “It was miserable, every time I got touched my arms would go numb… and I’m a defensive lineman so my head’s getting hit every play.”
The former Broncos DE confessed that he was paralyzed for three hours after suffering the injury and still played 2 weeks later in the NFL as no one cared about him or his health.
Derek Wolfe believes the NFL doesn’t care about it’s players
The NFL is one of the most physical leagues in the world where injuries are part and parcel of the game. However, if the sport is physical, then the players playing that sport should get added security and protection.
According to Derek Wolfe, it’s the complete opposite of how things actually happen in the NFL. The former Ravens DE pointed out that the league doesn’t care about him. He came to this realization after suffering a near-fatal injury that caused him to have a lack of fresh blood in his body.
“That’s when I realized man, they don’t care about us,” the Super Bowl Champion Derek Wolfe stated. There are still many injuries happening in the NFL and many people are still not sure what actually happens behind the cameras and the closed doors. Derek Wolfe is just one of few who made the decision to speak about the brutal world of NFL.
