“That was false!” Dez Bryant clarifies his stand on the rumors that he turned down a mega contract offer from the Ravens
Dez Bryant speaks up after almost 5 years of the Ravens contract situation in a thrilling tweet.
Dez Bryant for Cowboys (Inside the star)
Dez Bryant was an instrumental WR who retired from the NFL in 2020. The WR was once regarded as a prolific WR who had his glory years with the Dallas Cowboys.
However, he couldn’t maintain a decent partnership with QB Dak Prescott, resulting in his release from the team. Later, he signed for the New Orleans Saints and then retired after playing a lukewarm season with the Baltimore Ravens.
The 34-year-old stayed away from headlines for quite some time. However, he is back again to clarify a strong rumor going around his name. According to speculations, Bryant turned down a mega contract by the Ravens in 2018.
Interestingly, the former WR took to Twitter recently to clarify those rumors and give his own take on the riveting claims. Bryant chose his mental health over the NFL and that made him take a break from football.
“They tried to say I turned it down because I wanted a 1yr deal and that was false,” Dez Bryant stated on Twitter. “I wanted to get my mental back in check and follow my journey and passion…Personal Corner for the Athlete by the Athlete.
“Fans across the world knew how much I truly loved the game. I realized it wasn’t more important than my well being and helping my fellow athletes who look like me truly understand who they are and their worth.”
Dez Bryant eventually played for the Baltimore Ravens before his retirement
After his release from the Dallas Cowboys, Bryant saw a huge decline in his form. The former WR joined the Saints midway through the season, but to no avail. He suffered an injury that put him out for the remainder of the season.
That injury had significant effects on his game, as he was never the same player after that. Bryant then had a short 1-year stint with the Ravens but failed to perform. It was pretty evident that age had finally caught up to him and the WR was looking at a short future in the NFL.
After his contract with the Ravens ended, Bryant didn’t sign for any team after that. Instead, the former WR focused on other ventures and is doing pretty well in that.
Dez Bryant never forced himself to play while struggling instead. He choose retirement. It is also highly likely that the 34-year-old won’t sign for any NFL team now.
