On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers led by their second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett managed to secure a victory against the Cincinnati Bengals in their week 12 matchup. However, it seemed their locker room issues hadn’t been resolved yet as their No. 1 wide receiver Diontae Johnson showed no effort to recover his team’s fumble.

During the first quarter of the game, the Steelers were trying to put points on the board. They were facing a crucial 3rd down and 2 from Cincinnati’s 15-yard line. Pickett, who received the snap from the shotgun position, handed the ball off to running Jaylen Warren. The Steelers running back tried to find the gap between his offensive linemen.

However, Warren was immediately met with pressure as three Bengals defensive players and one of the defenders forced a fumble, which was returned to the 40-yard line by the Bengals’ defensive back DJ Turner. After marching down almost the entire field, the Steelers failed to even turn it into 3 points.

Fumbles are a part of the game, but fans took notice of Diontae Johnson’s lack of effort during the play. While Turner was trying to scoop the fumble, Johnson, who was standing just feet away from the ball, failed gave up on the play and started returning to the sidelines. Many were flabbergasted by the zero effort shown by their former Pro Bowl wide receiver.

Johnson also failed to complete a crucial touchdown catch early in the game. He might’ve been frustrated by dropping an easy touchdown pass, but it is no excuse for showing zero effort during the game.

Just a few days ago, ESPN reported that Johnson had a serious altercation with his teammate Minkah Fitzpatrick following the Steelers’ loss against the Cleveland Browns. And now, his lack of effort might indicate that he still has an issue with his team.
