On Sunday night, Lincoln Financial Field saw a bizarre situation take place in which San Francisco 49ers Dre Greenlaw got ejected. He wasn’t the only one who went for an early shower. The Philadelphia Eagles‘ head of security, Dom DiSandro, was also tossed out of the game by the officials.

The tension was at its peak as the visitors came prepared for the NFC Championship rematch, even though Fred Warner did not see it that way. Naturally, there were bound to be a few heated moments, but doubt anyone, even in their wildest dreams, would have dreamt of a non-football player interfering in the game.

That’s exactly what transpired near the touchline in the third quarter. With 9:27 minutes left on the clock, Greenlaw tackled Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith, who completed a 13-yard gain. The 49ers linebacker then picked Smith up and slammed him back on the ground, which resulted in a penalty flag for unnecessary roughness.

Shortly after, players and staff members of the Eagles converged near the area and started shouting at Greenlaw. DiSandro came face-to-face with the 26-year-old, who extended his arm and appeared to have made contact with the security guard’s face. As a result, the referee decided to eject Greenlaw for unsportsmanlike behavior.

There was still chatter going even after Greenlaw disappeared into the tunnel, with Warner accompanying him partway. Following a lengthy discussion, the officials also told DiSandro to leave the grounds immediately.

It was a confusing scene. Even the big bosses back in New York had their work cut out with this one. As per the pool report with Walt Anderson, the NFL’s senior vice president of officiating declared that DiSandro continued to bicker, which contributed” to the escalation” of the argument.

It did little in the final outcome, though, as the 49ers exacted their last season’s revenge with a comfortable 42-19 win on the night. After the game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said this about Dre Greenlaw’s ejection,

I just can't believe someone not involved in a football game can taunt our players like that and put their hands in our guy's face.

Veteran Oren Bucks replaced Greenlaw and finished the game with four tackles. Quarterback Brock Purdy had another outstanding outing, throwing four touchdowns for 314 yards. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who had unfinished business against the Eagles, put up 116 yards from just 4 receptions and 2 TDs. Runningback Christian McCaffrey carried the ball 17 times for 93 yards and a touchdown.

As for DiSandro, he has been with the Eagles since 1999. He has previously worked as a senior adviser to general manager Howie Roseman
