The Philadelphia Eagles have some great players on their roster. Both on offense and defense. The team has a great mixture of veterans and young players. They have started their NFL campaign 3-0 and look poised to make a deep playoff run. One of the veteran players on the Eagles is cornerback Darius Slay. He has had a good start to his season with one interception and four pass deflections.

Slay recently appeared on the 2nd Wind Podcast on Tuesday to talk about the Eagles’ culture and the team’s expectations for the 2023 season. During the conversation, Slay also touched upon the need for veteran players in the locker room as they help the young players figure out the NFL life. However, he also revealed that there are a lot of veterans who don’t help their younger teammates.

“It’s a lot of vets that come into the game and they’re playing and you can just see the hate that they get, You could be a five-year star and they draft a first-round rookie at your same position.” Slay said. “All your intentions are, ‘He’s here to take my spot …’ Don’t treat him differently because you feel like the organization wants to go a different way, be made at the organization.”

He further continued by saying, “That’s what I hate about definitely it comes to this league, man. A lot of guys don’t wanna help other guys become pros,  don’t like that about the league. But I ain’t never gonna be one of them guys.”

Slay was drafted in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He spent his first six years with the Lions, where he established himself as one of the premiere DBs in the league. He was traded to the Eagles at the beginning of the 2020 season. Slay was part of the Eagles team that played in the Super Bowl last year, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in a close game.

Darius Slay calls Broncos’ CB Patrick Surtain the number one corner in the league

Slay named players such as Stephon Gilmore, Marshon Lattimore, Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howard as his top corners. However, he picked Denver Broncos‘ CB Patrick Surtain Jr. as the best DB in the league. “When I can’t get number one spot [Patrick] Surtain is the number one corner right now to me.” he said.

Surtain was drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Since then, he has been one of the best DBs in the NFL and was recently voted as the second-best cornerback by Fox Sports. Although the Broncos are 0-3 to begin the season, Surtain has been a few bright spots for them in an otherwise dull season.
