Philadelphia Eagles DC Sean Desai always encourages his players to be aggressive when they enter the field. It does have its merits, but more often than not, the result doesn’t end well for the players themselves. A textbook example was an unfortunate friendly fire on defensive tackle Milton Williams at Arrowhead on Monday Night.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, kicked off the fourth quarter looking for Travis Kelce. Mahomes connected with his tight end, but he wasn’t able to gain any ground because two Eagles players pounced on him.

Williams and linebacker Nicholas Morrow came charging in and collided with each other head-first. While Morrow got back up immediately, it was a different matter altogether for the 24-year-old Williams, who stayed down on the ground.

Without wasting a second, the medical team arrived on the scene and examined the former 3rd round pick out of Louisiana Tech. Players from both sides gathered around and looked tense as the crowd went silent, hoping nothing too serious happened to him. Fortunately, he was back up, was able to shake the jitters off, and went inside the tunnel for further evaluation.

Update on the Milton Williams injury

He was taken to the infirmary at the stadium, fearing a concussion. The Philadelphia Eagles X account posted,

DT Milton Williams is being evaluated for a concussion.

Meanwhile, the game was trudging along—back and forth between the two sides—as the final whistle approached. The Chiefs dominated most of the proceedings, but there was only a three-point gap, which the Eagles quickly covered as Jalen Hurts found wide receiver DeVonta Smith for a first down near the 2-yard mark. Hurts called upon the ‘tush-push’ and he bulldozed his way for a touchdown.

This is when an update regarding Williams was shared online. It read,

DT Milton Williams has been ruled out.

He did not rejoin the game.

With just under 2 minutes left on the clock, Mahomes had the ball in his hands near the halfway mark for a second down. They only had one pause left; the fear of time management kicked in, and he went deep looking for one of his receivers. Marquez Valdes-Scantling got clear of his marker—cornerback Bradley Roby. However, after juggling the ball for a few seconds, he dropped the pass, ending their chances of a comeback.

The Eagles won the game 21-17. Furthermore, the win against the Chiefs means they are now 9-1 in 2023. On top of that, they are now the top seed in the NFC while their last night’s opponents dropped to the second spot in the AFC behind Baltimore Ravens.
