Super Bowl LVII is just a few hours away. This world championship game makes history as it is the first time in the NFL that the two starting quarterbacks are both African Americans. Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts are part of a historic game that will be remembered forever as the two powerhouses clash for the title.
Another interesting fact about Super Bowl LVII is that it’s the first time two brothers, Jason, and Travis Kelce will play in the Super Bowl on opposite teams. Many fans have already signed a petition stating that Donna Kelce, mother of the Kelce brothers, do the coin toss at the Super Bowl in Arizona to kick off the last game of the 2022 season.
This Super Bowl is also very special to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid who served as the head coach for the Eagles for more than a decade until he was fired by the team in 2012. Reid will be looking to show Philadelphia owner Jeffrey Lurie that he was wrong in firing him and not believing in him by winning his second Super Bowl title with the Chiefs.
Andy Reid leads the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl in five years
Andy Reid, 64, was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles back in 1998. As the head coach of the franchise, Reid led them to six division titles, nine postseasons where they won five conference championships, and a trip to Super Bowl XXXIX. Tom Brady and the Patriots defeated them 24-21 and cemented their legacy as the next greatest dynasty in the NFL after the Dallas Cowboys.
Despite having a 130-93-1 record and making the Eagles a postseason contender every year, he was fired in 2012 after delivering a 4-12 season. After Philadelphia parted ways with Andy Reid, he was hired by the failing Kansas City Chiefs. Reid completely turned around the Chiefs from the worst to the best in the league. Jeffrey Lurie, owner of the Eagles acknowledged the fact that his team will be facing Andy Reid who led the franchise to its first Super Bowl appearance.
While talking with Washington Post, Jeffrey Lurie said that it was a hard decision for him to fire Andy Reid. “It was extremely difficult because I personally was very close with Andy. Obviously, we had a lot, a lot of success together. He represented everything I believe in,” he said. Lurie also added that it was best for Reid and his family to have a change in environment.
Lurie further said, “I always thought he would be very successful wherever he went. I credit the Chiefs for immediately realizing their opportunity. And, in my opinion, they got a top-notch Hall of Fame coach.” Andy Reid has been a boon to the Chiefs and with the addition of Patrick Mahomes, they are now a Super Bowl contender every year. Let’s see if Reid can defeat his former team and win his second Super Bowl or do the Eagles snatch away the victory from under their nose. Only a few hours until this question is answered!
