The historic Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles has created a lot of buzz around the league for several reasons. One of the reasons being this game will be the first Super Bowl, which will see both teams having Black quarterbacks as starters. The Eagles’ third-year quarterback Jalen Hurts is a phenomenal player on the football field who just finished second place in the MVP voting this season. And off the field, he has the reputation of being one of the most genuine and humble people in the league. The Pro Bowl QB credits his success to his father Averion Hurts, who shaped the QB to become what he is now.

“I am not the man I am on the field, off the field, the quarterback I am, the leader I am…, I am none of that without him,” said Hurts in a recent press conference ahead of the historic Super Bowl game. “I am a direct reflection of him, a spitting image of him in so many ways, and I love him and I respect him for how tough he was on me, how honest he was with me and the man he raised.”

Moreover, Averion Hurts, the father of the Eagles Pro Bowl QB, used to be Hurts’ high school football coach and guided him to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL currently.

The Chiefs All-Pro QB Patrick Mahomes also credits his success to his father. During a recent interview ahead of the first Super Bowl game with two starting quarterbacks, Mahomes revealed how much his father means to him.

“My dad… He means the world to me man, I mean he set an example for me of how you have to go through this business,” said the Chiefs QB about his father Patrick Mahomes Sr., who had an 11-year career in Major League Baseball. “He dealt with a lot of positives, he was in the MLB at an early age but he also battled in the minor leagues for a long time and he just kept following his dream and he was able to make it to the world series and it showed me that no matter if you’re not having success at the moment, you continue to follow your dream, you’ll make it.”

Besides being the first Super Bowl with starting Black QBs, the game has also created an expectation around the league as two equally matched teams are ready to leave everything on the field to win the Super Bowl for the city they represent.
