The Super Bowl is already upon us in a week’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in the season’s biggest clash. One would think that ahead of the titular clash, all the talk would surround the footballing aspect of the game.

However, that has clearly not being the case with the iconic Empire State Building in New York grabbing the headlines for its choice of colors recently. The building lit up in green colors after the Philadelphia Eagles’ NFC Championship game against the New York Giants.

Despite the fact, that a franchise from New York lost the game, the Empire State Building’s decision to show solidarity to the other franchise was met with huge uproar from the New Yorkers. The Giants fans slammed the picture uploaded by the Building’s official Twitter account, showing that it had been lit up with green colors.

The uproar wasn’t restricted to just the general public, with New York City Mayor Eric Adams joining in on the conversation. He felt that after the Giants’ defeat, the Empire State Building should have contained the colors green and blue, those associated with the Giants.

“The way the Eagles game got away from us with the Giants, we should have lit up in real symbolism the colors of the giant. That blue should have been there,” Adams said during an appearance on CNN this week.

According to recent reports, the building is all set to repeat it’s act by turning all green, if the Eagles do end up winning the Super Bowl clash against the Chiefs. On the other hand, it would sport a red color, if the Chiefs end up winning the titular clash.

“The Empire State Building will continue its annual practice of being a virtual scoreboard for the Super Bowl, and will then light for the winning team,” a spokesman of the iconic building said.

Insider reports from within the building claim, that they have found the uproar quite funny, since they are a global brand, and do not have any affinity to the city of New York officially. In all fairness, the building also sported the red color in support of the Chiefs after their AFC Championship victory over the Bengals.
