“Everything’s bigger in Texas”- Texas Longhorns spent $280,000 for GRAND weekend to get Arch Manning

Arch Manning

Arch Manning is by far the biggest name in high school football. That’s not only due to his talent on the field but also because of his pedigree and the Manning surname. Arch is next in line to represent the first family of football- The Mannings. Every college football program in the country wanted Arch Manning to commit to them but Texas Longhorns won the Arch Manning sweepstakes.

Texas Longhorns haven’t had the best record in recent memory nor were they at the top of the college football pyramid despite their long and rich history. So why would Arch Manning, son of Cooper Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning, and nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning choose them? Many believe a lot of the credit goes to second-year Head Coach Steve Sarkisian who’s close to the Manning family. That is not the only reason as Texas’s spending spree to recruit Arch Manning and other top prospects during their recruitment weekend may have also played a part.

Arch Manning has shown glimpses of greatness as he plays for his father and uncle’s former high school team Isidore Newman. His name and talent have made him the No.1 ranked QB of his class and college programs across the country were dying to sign him. The competition was intense and Texas decided to go all out for the football royalty with a $280,000 recruitment weekend to get Manning to Texas along with other top prospects.

The breakdown of the expenses is quite a read. Around $21000 for travel expenses for air and car service, $47000 accommodation which included 34 hotel rooms for the players and their loved ones with the coaches and other Texas staff, and $17,319.71 on a lunch buffet. Plus, $1,813.74 in addition to desserts and snacks which was a grand affair on its own, earning comparisons with a certain fictional chocolatier’s great work.

Another $29,129.40 went towards a dinner buffet; $11,880 went toward a “social” between parents and coaches, which included an open bar; $10,226 went towards a breakfast buffet; $9,497.22 went toward TopGolf; $36,900 went toward the pricey III Forks Steakhouse; and $2,357.50 toward a cruise.

This wasn’t the only big spend by the rejuvenating program as they spent an even bigger $350,000 on another recruitment weekend.

The spending was huge but it got the job done. Texas was able to convince Arch Manning to convince their program there would be a freshman next season, but he will be under a great amount of pressure to live up to the legacy. That was, grandfather Archie and uncle Peyton, both College Football Hall of Famers, and his uncles Peyton and Eli had legendary careers in the NFL with a combined 4 Super Bowl rings,5 league MVPs, and a combined 20 Pro Bowls.
