The Atlanta Falcons headed into the off-season much earlier than they would’ve hoped for. Following an underwhelming 2023 campaign, where they finished with 7 wins and 10 losses, the Falcons fired their head coach Arthur Smith. Currently, they are looking for his replacement and have interviewed multiple candidates, including Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh.
On Tuesday, the Falcons announced that they have completed an interview with the Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh for their vacant coaching position. This happened a day after they sat down with the former New England Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick, for the same position.
Harbaugh and Belichick are arguably the two best head coaching candidates in the current free agency market. And the Falcons are not wasting any time in their pursuit to rope in their next franchise leader. The Falcons have a great roster but have underachieved in all three seasons under their former coach Arthur Smith.
In his three-year tenure in Atlanta, Smith had a 21-30 record and failed to make the postseason in all those seasons. As a result, the Falcons fired Smith and are now looking to find a coach who can lead their team back to winning ways. According to Bookies.com, the Falcons are currently the favorites to land Belichick with odds of +250.
Furthermore, according to some reports, Belichick wants to coach a talented yet underperforming team in the upcoming season, which is the perfect definition for the Falcons and the Los Angeles Chargers. However, between Justin Herbert and Desmond Ridder, the Chargers have the advantage on the quarterback position and Belichick might lean towards LA because of that.
As for Jim Harbaugh, he is trying to make a comeback to the league after winning the CFP national championship title with the Wolverines. He is also one of the most sought-after head coaching candidates in the league.
Social media reacts to Falcons’ pursuing Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh
Fans on social media were intrigued by the Atlanta Falcons conducting interviews with the veteran leader Bill Belichick and Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh in back-to-back days.
The Falcons’ fans were happy with their team’s start to the off-season, but still pessimistic about their chances to rope either of those head coaches. Check out some of the reactions below.
Nonetheless, the Atlanta-based football team will continue to conduct interviews with multiple candidates before choosing their next leader. Besides, the Falcons would also have to decide on their quarterback situation. Some fans want them to move on from their current QB Desmond Ridder.
