Mac Jones and the New England Patriots suffered a heartbreaking loss against the Cincinnati Bengals on Christmas Eve. Furthermore, Jones in particular received heavy criticism for his controversial low block on Bengals DB Eli Apple.
The block happened during the second half of the game when the Patriots were trying to secure a comeback victory. Cincinnati LB Germaine Pratt scooped a fumble and returned it all the way for a touchdown. During the return, Mac Jones dived at the legs of the sprinting Eli Apple in an attempt to block the defensive back, who was trying to clear the way for Pratt.
Eli Apple called out Jones for the low block after the game and also accused Jones of being a dirty player. This is the third time a player has accused Jones of playing recklessly. Even though there were no penalty flags thrown by the on-field officials, the NFL announced that it will take a look at the controversial hits and make a decision accordingly.
And now, the NFL has made a decision and the Pats QB was fined twice for violating NFL rules. He was fined $13,367 for his low block on the Bengals DB Eli Apple along with an additional $10,609 fine for a separate instance during the last minute of the Bengals-Patriots game.
The Patriots went on to lose their game against the Bengals after Pats RB Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled the football near the endzone during the last minute of the fourth quarter.

Twitter scorches Mac Jones
Bengals fans on social media scorched the Patriots QB after the NFL fined him heavily for unnecessary roughness. These fines came as a result of Jones’ controversial low block on Eli Apple.
Mac Jones has a reputation for being a dirty player in the league. He was bashed by NFL fans for lifting his cleats to hit the Bears safety Jaquan Brisker earlier this season. The second-year quarterback was also called out by Brian Burns last year for twisting the OLB’s ankle during the game.
As for the New England Patriots, they control their own destiny when it comes to their chances at a playoff spot. If they win the rest of their games, they’ll likely get a playoff spot without any help. But they have a tough task ahead as they have to defeat the Miami Dolphins and their division leaders Buffalo Bills.
