It is officially the end of an era in the NFL. Tom Brady, arguably the greatest player in the history of the game has finally called it a day to his glittering career.
After a mammoth 23 seasons, the 45-year-old is all set to start his retirement life after having won everything there is to win in the game. Whether it be his record 7 Super Bowl rings or numerous NFL MVP awards, the quarterback has won it all during his time.
Brady took to his official Instagram account, to share the news of his retirement. In what will go down as a historic video, Brady thanked each and every individual who has shared the space with him at some point or the other during his elongated 23-year-old career.
Tom Brady bowled over Jason McCourty with his humility and personality
The amount of respect, Tom Brady commands all over the world however is simply not due to his footballing skills. Apart from the gridiron, he has proven again and again that his personality too makes him a desirable man, teammate and a human being to be looked up to.
Brady spent most of his career with the New England Patriots and one of his former teammates pointed out his human side after his retirement. Jason McCourty, who joined the Patriots in 2018, was an integral part of the franchise’s Super Bowl LII success. He shared the locker room with Brady for a single year, but that was all the time he needed to understand his greatness.
Speaking on the Good Morning Football show, McCourty revealed key insights into how Brady behaved off the field. The one point in McCourty’s description of his former teammate which stood out the most has to be Brady’s humility.
In a longish rant, McCourty said, “I got an opportunity to play with this guy for two years and often people come up to you and they’re like ‘What is Brady really like?’ And everybody’s assuming there’s this behind the curtain Tom Brady, who’s this different type of person and not a nice guy.”
“And for him to play 23 years and not have a teammate say anything bad about him. I look at Tom being in that locker room and he was a guy that would come up and introduce himself to a new player on the team. Literally say, ‘I’m Tom Brady as if everybody didn’t know who he was.”
“He was a guy when I text him a video of my son catching a pass, because he’s his favorite player, he responded saying, Hopefully i get to throw him a few passes. That’s Tom Brady. So yes he had 10 Super Bowl appearances, he won 7, MVPs, Greatest player of all time.”
“When I look at him as a man, and as a player and the way he treated everybody around him, when so much was expected of him. Those are the things I look back on and say, I’m so happy, he was the player he was, because of the type of person he was. That’s how I’ll remember Tom Brady the football player, and I’m excited to see what he does next.”
