“I couldn’t tie my shoes,” Brandon Marshall makes a SHOCKING revelation about playing with concussion following Tua Tagovailoa’s controversy

Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall is a former NFL wide receiver who is now a popular media personality and currently hosts the “I AM ATHLETE” podcast. Marshall played 13 seasons in the NFL and is a 6-time Pro Bowler, although some off-field and struggles with mental health led him to have a very unstable career during which he played for 7 different teams. For a player like Marshall, his career was always on the line and he could not take any chances, which led him to put his life and overall well-being on the line.

The National Football League has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons following a concussion suffered by Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals which raised many eyebrows as Tua had suffered a similar hit in the game before against the Buffalo Bills which the Dolphins ruled out as a back injury while many across the league felt looked like a concussion.

“I didn’t let anyone know”, Brandon Marshall on being contract year and suffering a concussion

Brandon Marshall was on Kay Adams’ new show Up & Adams and opened up about a concussion he suffered while he was a part of the Miami Dolphins back in 2010 and his story is shocking.

After he got hit by a linebacker, he knew something was not right with him and he shared the thoughts going through his mind then- “The first thing that went through my mind was, ‘stay here on a knee, collect yourself. Make sure you have your legs underneath you because if I get up and I take one step to the left or to the right and it looks like I’m stumbling, I’m in the protocol and they’re taking me off the field.

Why was Marshall worried more about being taken off the field than about his health? A contract. Marshall said- “The feeling of ‘if I come out this game, I’m not going to get the contract that I’m working towards right now. I was literally in a contract year.”

Marshall got up and went on with his business but he was suffering and he never told anyone as he struggled with normal day-to-day activities just afraid that he would be taken off the field and that would jeopardize his chances at a contract- “For the next two and a half to three weeks after that hit, I couldn’t close my eyes without stumbling. I couldn’t tie my shoes, and I didn’t let anyone know.

Marshall’s story is an eye-opener, as he is not the only one. There are many more who suffer silently and put their life at risk for that contract, for that next paycheck, so they can put dinner on the table for their families. It is a serious issue that needs to be tackled by the NFL and the NFLPA.
