Saquon Barkley has had a poor run of form since joining the Giants in 2018 and with countless injuries, people are questioning his value in the squad. Every position in NFL is important and when there’s a weak link in a team it can be capitalized by the opponent.

Before the start of the preseason, the Giants had a complete overhaul of the coaching staff and head coach Brian Daboll said earlier this week that the Giants are planning to utilize all the players in the preseason.

Barkley did not play much in the preseason in his 5 years in the NFL. On Thursday night the 25-year-old RB had five touches on the teams opening preseason drive against the Patriots. The one-time Pro Bowler had four carries and caught a pass for 8 yards.

Saquon Barkley is often criticized as the No.2 overall pick in 2018 and he hasn’t done anything fundamental to prove the critics wrong until now.

Though the 25-year-old is plagued by injuries, all-time Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders believes that he can still bounce back. Sanders said in an interview he fully expects the Giants RB to rebound here in 2022.

“Every year in the NFL is a big year. Obviously he’s coming back from a big injury,” Sanders said. “I know Saquon a little bit and I think he’ll be all right.

“Being as young as he is . . . players bounce back from injury all the time. We saw that with Adrian Peterson just a few years ago. I have all the faith and confidence in Saquon.”

Sanders is positive about Barkley’s potential. The Giants and coach Brian Daboll are also counting on the 25-year-old RB to perform this season and so far he has not disappointed. Barkley just doesn’t look healthy.

The Giants have picked up a fifth-year option on Barkley’s contract, this indicates that this may be a ‘make it or break it’ season for the youngster.
