Deshaun Watson and his subsequent suspension for his behavior has brought a lot of heat to NFL and its personal conduct policy. Watson was recently suspended for 6 games by retd. Judge Sue L Robinson which was not appreciated by much by the NFL world and NFL faced severe backlash for it.

Watson was sentenced for violating the N.F.L.’s personal conduct policy and was not asked to pay monetarily, the suspension came after NFL concluded it’s 15-month investigation into sexual misconduct claims made against him by more than two dozen women.

The scapegoat for the Cleveland Browns Quarterback’s perceived light sentence was NFL’s personal conduct policy. This policy was last modified in 2020 after an arbitration process was established in the CBA. The personal conduct policy includes provisions for penalizing players even if their transgressions did not result in criminal convictions. Now the said policy has apparently disappeared.

The said policy has been under scanner for a long time and for NFL, a high profile case like Watson’s wasn’t a good news as it put the policy under the scanner of media and public both. Debates occurred across media desks and dinner tables regarding this policy.

Now the disappearing act of the policy may be a coincidence or a deliberate move by NFL we cannot be sure. The policy and NFL are currently not people appreciate in light of Watson’s sentence. May be there are some big changes a foot, who knows?
