The XFL is an American professional football minor league that was founded by WWE executive Vince McMahon in 2018. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league had to be abruptly stopped as it filed for bankruptcy.

However, in August 2020, American actor Dwayne Johnson (popularly known as the Rock) along with ex-wife Dany Garcia, decided to purchase the league in a consortium deal for $15 million. Currently, the league has eight teams – DC Defenders, Seattle Sea Dragons, St. Louis BattleHawks, Vegas Viper, Arlington Renegades, Houston Roughnecks, Orlando Guardians, and the San Antonio Brahmas.

Many former NFL players are currently playing in the XFL after not finding the opportunity to play in the former. One such player is A. J. McCarron, who spent his time on the reserve bench for the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders, and Houston Texans. In the XFL he’s playing for the St. Louis BattleHawks.

Earlier, A.J. McCarron had explained that the reason for choosing the XFL over the NFL is because his son loves watching him play. While in the NFL he was mostly used as a backup, but here he is getting regular playing time and creating memories for his children.

My 6-year old loves watching tape of me on YouTube. That’s a big reason I chose to return this way. I probably could’ve tried to come back with an NFL team and had a chance to probably make bigger money. but no one knows what the future holds. I’m enjoying this and it’s a great way to create some memories for me and my boys.”

Responding to his statement, Dwayne Johnson, who is more popularly known as the ‘Rock’ said that A.J. McCarron’s decision to play in the XFL meant a lot to him. He also appreciated that McCarron was making less money than he would in the NFL but has still decided to stay here.

Takes less money signing with us over the @NFL because he wanted his little boys to see him play. Now he’s 2-0 and led his team to back to back exciting last minute wins. I’d say he’s creating some memories for his boys. AJ’s decision means a helluva lot to me, personally. #XFL.”

A.J. McCarron and the St Louis BattleHawks are currently off to a great start to their XFL season, having won two straight games.
