Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers has taken full responsibility for his last-minute fumble against the Raiders, which cost them the game in week 15. The Las Vegas Raiders snatched the game from the New England Patriots 30-24 to go 6-8 for the season.
The Patriots tried to do a miracle in the last play of the game, which brutally went against them. Meyers threw the ball back to quarterback Mac Jones in an attempt to do something different and to his dismay, Raiders edge rusher Chandler Jones caught the ball and ran 48 yards to the end zone to score a game-winning touchdown.
After the match with tears in his eyes, Meyers explained his thought process behind his move and said that he was trying too much and wanted to be a hero. He didn’t see the Raiders player near Jones and admitted that instead of doing what he did, he should’ve gone down with the ball. He said that RB Rhamondre Stevenson trusted him when he gave him the ball and he should’ve acted smarter.
“Just trying to do too much. Trying to be a hero, I guess,” an emotional Meyers told the media. “I ain’t see dude back there, tried throwing the ball. I just was doing too much. I should’ve went down with the ball. It ain’t even about Rhamondre. Once he gives it to me, I’m smart enough to know the score was tied and go down with it. Whether he gave me the ball or not – he gave it to me because he trusts me. I’ve just got to be smarter with it.”

NFL Twitter reacts to Jakobi Meyers owning his mistake
NFL fans on social media were very impressed by Jakobi Meyers’ maturity and sympathized with him over his mistake. Fans were happy that he didn’t give reasons and straight away owned up to his blunder.
As for the New England Patriots, with this loss, they are now 7-7 for the season and are third in the AFC East division. They are a game behind the Miami Dolphins and will find it very hard to qualify for the playoffs. They will face the Bengals this week before facing the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills in their last matches. All three matches will be very difficult for the Patriots to win.
