Jets not pursuing another QB is reportedly due to ‘budget issues’ because they went all-in for Aaron Rodgers this off season

The New York Jets are in a tough sport right now. They lost their starting QB Aaron Rodgers to an Achilles injury in their first game of the season and the team’s backup QB Zach Wilson hasn’t had a great game for the Jets yet. After winning their season opener against the Buffalo Bills, the Jets have lost their next two games. Rodgers signed with the Jets this offseason and was expected to lead a young team to a deep postseason run.
There were calls from Jets fans for the team to bring in a veteran quarterback to replace Rodgers for the season, but the team has continued to show their support for Wilson, despite his struggles. Wilson has four interceptions and only two touchdowns through three weeks. According to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson, the Jets are not pursuing a new QB due to ‘budget issues.’
“I’m told there are budget concerns (2nd-most spending in cash [$280M] behind CLE), they feel teams don’t usually trade quality back-ups & acclimation is harder than people think.” Anderson wrote on Twitter. The Jets initially signed Rodgers on a two-year deal worth $110 million. However, the veteran quarterback decided to take a $35 million pay cut so that it would give the organization the flexibility to sign better players.
The Jets signed Wilson second overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, but the young QB has yet to make his mark in the league. With no apparent money to sign a new QB, the Jets will have to make do with Wilson till Rodgers recovers from his injury. The Jets will play the defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs in their next game at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Aaron Rodgers criticizes the Jets teammates for sideline arguments
Aaron Rodgers won’t play for the New York Jets this season. He suffered an Achilles tear during the Jets’ first game of the season and since then has been nursing the injury. While appearing on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers called out his Jets teammates for sideline arguments that occurred during the New England Patriots game.
“There’s been too many little side conversations, and we just need to grow up a little bit on offense and lock in and do our jobs,” Rodgers said on the show. “And not point fingers at each other. That’s everybody. Don’t point fingers at the coaching staff. Don’t point fingers at each other. Just get back to work and get the job done. It’s more the side stuff that I don’t like, and I want to see us stick together through the tough times,” he added.
The Jets HC Robert Saleh and other players on the team seem to agree with their QB. “He’s right, man, you can’t blow up and show our frustration on the sideline — especially on the sideline,” cornerback DJ Reed said. Saleh had the same sentiment as he said, “I think he’s not wrong in that when you have frustration, it’s easy to look for answers when sometimes the most important answer is inward.” The Jets are 1-2 and the frustrations are boiling over. They will hope to get a win as soon as possible to ease all the tension.
