“It was a fumble,” Jimmy Garoppolo butters up the Raiders Nation with his recent comments about Tom Brady’s ‘tuck rule’ game

After parting ways with their former franchise QB Derek Carr, the Raiders went out and signed the former 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency. After signing a 3 year $67.5 million contract with the Las Vegas-based football team, he recently took a tour of their team facilities earlier this week. During his trip, the Raiders QB got on the good side of the Raiders nation with his comments about Tom Brady‘s infamous tuck rule game, which kickstarted the Patriots dynasty.
In the 2001 AFC Divisional round, the New England Patriots, led by Tom Brady, played against the Oakland Raiders. During the final minutes of the fourth quarter, the Patriots trailed 10-13 and had the ball slightly out of the field goal range. Brady dropped back in an attempt to pass but was hit by the Raiders cornerback Charles Woodson, causing Brady to lose the ball.
The on-field officials initially ruled it a fumble which would’ve ended the game right there. But after a brief video review, the officials overturned the call and called it an incomplete pass, negating the fumble. After maintaining the possession, the Patriots managed to tie the game with a field goal and eventually ended up winning in overtime. And thus, the Patriots’ dynasty began thanks to the tuck rule.
Even more than 2 decades after, both fanbases are still arguing over that game. And now, the newly signed Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who previously sat behind Tom Brady in New England has reignited the debate.

Jimmy Garoppolo believes it was a fumble
During his recent tour around team facilities, the former 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looked around the portraits of some of the memorable moments in the Raiders. When he saw the photo of the tuck rule game, Jimmy G knew exactly what he had to say.
“It was a fumble,” said Garoppolo with a smile. “It was a fumble.” It seems like the two-time Super Bowl Champion Garoppolo would fit in perfectly with the Las Vegas-based football team.
With his comments, Jimmy G has earned some fans from Las Vegas and lost plenty of fans from his old team, the Patriots. Some fans commented that Garoppolo would be a good fit for the Raiders since both haven’t won anything meaningful in recent times.
Nevertheless, Garoppolo will look to revive his career with the Raiders, who have an abundance of offensive weapons. If the Raiders could nail the upcoming draft, they might even make the playoffs under Jimmy G.
