“Jimmy Garoppolo WINS games”: Colin Cowherd makes an argument for Jimmy G as the most underrated NFL player

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo has a lot of uncertainty ahead. The quarterback may not start another game for the San Francisco 49ers ever again as he has not attended the team’s mandatory camp as the team exempted him. The veteran quarterback is currently in the process of rehabbing his injured shoulder. All the moves made by the 49ers seem to point out that Trey Lance will be taking the first snap for the team but the biggest question seems to be, will he also be the same quarterback who takes the last snap for the team or will he be replaced?

Due to this, many analysts believe Jimmy G is a good quarterback but we have seen what he can and cannot do. He cannot win your team a Super Bowl, he is an extremely unreliable quarterback and tends to disappear in the most crucial of moments in the game. Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd believes that Jimmy G is the most underrated player in the NFL, here’s why:

“Jimmy G is the most underrated QB in the NFL by a mile”: Colin Cowherd makes his case for the 49ers QB as the most undervalued player

Colin is of the opinion that Jimmy Garoppolo is the best quarterback that teams should look to trade for as his contract is structured in such a way that he just one more year left on it. Any team that were to trade for him will not end up having to invest long-term in him and and can release him if he does not live up to the expectations.

“Jimmy Garoppolo has now become the most underrated player in the NFL. He has one year left on his contract, if you sign him, you are not invested for years. He’s gonna make $26 million, most of it not guaranteed. There are 7-8 minimum teams after this year who are going to need a quarterback. Didn’t we watch him (Jimmy G) outplay Aaron Rodgers at Lambeau Field?,” Colin goes on to make an argument for the rumors that suggest he is prone to injuries and cannot stay healthy.

“He played 15 of 17 games, plays three playoff games. In the one he lost to the Rams, he led 17 to 7 in the third quarter. In the Super Bowl year (2019) he played 19 of 19 games, what you do not want to be at quarterback is chaotic, incompetent and, uncoachable. He is incredibly coachable, an all-star in the locker room, and was available for 95% games last year, and there’s no market for him? This ‘he’s never available,’ is nonsense,” the analyst goes on to make a compelling case.

“He was in an offense that is geared towards throwing the football, he ranked 6th in the league in completion percentage, 9th in passer rating, 2nd in yards per attempt and first in yards per completion. He can be rickety by il take that over bad, uncoachable, and incompetent. I would turn the argument on its side and say, when he is available, he wins games.” Colin seems to still be on the Jimmy G hype train as he believes that in the playoff game against the Rams, the QB played pretty good and it was the 49ers defense that let them down.

“He’s not great, he had a bad pick in the Rams game. He doesn’t always play great but he wins games. It’s a one year deal and he wins 75% of his starts,” Colin concludes.

Jimmy G is a competent quarterback who can play well most of the time, however, he tends to fare bad in crunch time situations. In addition to that, he needs a solid core that he can rely upon and cannot be considered on the level of an Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady. What do you think the future holds for the troubled quarterback?
