The 2023 Pro Bowl was different from those that happened before. This year the league swapped the originally played tackle football with flag football. The event started on February 2, with skills competitions that included water balloon tosses, dodgeball, precision passing, and quarterbacks showing their throwing abilities. There was also a competition for the longest golf drive which was hilarious, to say the least. The second leg of the Pro Bowl which will take place on February 5, at Allegiant Stadium will show the 7-on-7 flag football game.

Three different flag football games with be played between the AFC and NFC. Each game will last for 20 minutes and the scores of each game will be added to count the final tally and the winner will be decided as such. Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning will be coaching the AFC and the NFC will be coached by his brother 2x Super Bowl Champ Eli Manning.

NFL executive Peter O’Reilly told Associated Press last year that the league decided to change the events after 2022’s Pro Bowl following an internal discussion and feedback from players, coaches, and GMs around the league. “We think there’s a real opportunity to do something wholly different here and move away from the traditional tackle football game,” O’Reilly said.

Pro Bowl is all about players coming together, having fun, and creating memories away from the rivalries of the regular season. And this year’s Pro Bowl exactly depicted the sentiment but there is one player in the league who is not happy with the changes made – Josh Jacobs. The Las Vegas Raiders running back wasn’t impressed with the new games and found them to be a total bore fest.

As reported by Tashan Reed of The Athletic, Josh Jacobs said on Saturday, “This s–t is stupid.” This comment came after the Pro Bowlers had a practice session for Sunday’s flag football match. Pro Bowl games aren’t played with full gusto as they used back in the day. Now players are more injury conscious and they avoid contact during the Pro Bowl exhibition. This made a mockery of the long-held tradition which made the NFL change it entirely this year.

Josh Jacobs, selected 24th overall by the Raiders in 2019 put up another great season. He led the league in running backs for rushing yards (1653). He also scored 12 touchdowns in the regular season earning him his second Pro Bowl nomination. “They need to figure out a way to make this make sense, because I don’t enjoy this,” Jacobs said via the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We’re just kind of here. It’s not even really organized. They need to figure it out.”

After the first leg of the Pro Bowl games, the AFC leads the NFC 9-3. The AFC won the Lightning round, Longest drive, and Precision Passing round and the NFC won in Dodgeball. Now, with the flag football game remaining, it’ll be fun to watch which conference wins the 2023 Pro Bowl!
