The Chicago Bears have upset the kings of the NFC North, the Detroit Lions. Tonight, the Bears showed the Lions who the real king of the jungle is. In a game where Justin Fields stepped up to the plate and threw for 223 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 rushing touchdown, the potential that this team has and especially the chemistry between the QB and DJ Moore was put on display.

Justin Fields’ sole passing touchdown was on an impressive 4th down play on which he managed to connect with DJ Moore on a 38-yard pass. What made this play more impressive was the fact that right before the moment when the ball was snapped to Fields, the Lions’ defense took the bait and jumped early which resulted in the referee throwing a flag on the play.

Since it was a blunder by the defense, it had no impact on the course of events that ensued. Justin Fields ended up finding DJ Moore who left his defender in the dust and caught the ball for a successful touchdown play.

This play was not just another normal one, it was a statement in many ways, a response from Fields to the Detroit Lions defense.

Justin Fields silenced the Detroit Lions’ defense tonight

Fields took a hard hit from the Lions on the play right before, while it is considered safe to opt for a field goal kick or a punt in a 4th down situation, tonight the Bears decided to play their odds. Since the score was tied at 13, the team decided to throw the ball anyway and managed to reap the benefits of it. This play effectively silenced the Lions’ defense and broke their morale.

Better late than never has to be a phrase that ought to be used to describe this new-look Chicago Bears team. They have been slowly but surely turning things around lately and their 28-13 victory against the best team in their division is a testament to the same.

The team’s recent acquisition of Montez Sweat on defense has also greatly benefitted them and tonight, he played a significant part in keeping Jared Goff at bay all night. The Bears’ final run was nothing short of wonderful. The team put up 15 points in just 7 minutes to break the tie. Justin Fields etched his name in the record books of the Bears as he joined Bobby Douglas as the only QB to have rushed for 2,000 yards in franchise history.
