The NFL world experienced one of the most tragic incidents on a sporting pitch this year, after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, suffered a heartbreaking cardiac arrest. Hamlin collapsed on the gridiron during the Week-16 game against the Cincinnati Bengals bringing a stop to the entire NFL fraternity, all of whom gathered together to pray for the 24-year-old’s speedy recovery.

He suffered cardiac arrest during the first quarter of the game, after colliding with Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. However, the impact of the clash wasn’t instantaneous, and Hamlin fell to the ground after a few seconds had elapsed.

Hamlin spent days in the ICU, fighting it out and the NFL fraternity eventually breathed a huge sigh of relief when he came out victorious, and was released from the hospital. The Bills safety also attended the playoff game against the Bengals, which the Bills unfortunately came out second best.

Irrespective of everything, the best thing that happened to Hamlin was that he got out of danger and is enroute to making a complete recovery from the mishap that affected him last season. Three months since that incident, Damar Hamlin found himself once again in the center of attraction, after he was spotted sporting a controversial jacket which allegedly disrespected the Bible and the holy Christian cross.

Hamlin also wrote a public statement on his official Twitter account, clarifying that he meant no disrespect to anybody’s religious feelings.

“After talking with my parents I understand how my coat could have offended some people,” Hamlin wrote. “It was never my intentions to hurt or disrespect anyone, the coat is abstract art to me.”

Picking up on that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, made a reference towards Damar Hamlin during his speech while receiving the Bart Starr award recently. In a six-second video, that has gone viral on social media, Cousins is heard saying, “Damar Hamlin was brought back to life, but he is going to die.”

This remark has not gone down well with fans, but in all fairness to the Vikings quarterback, it is a case of not understanding the whole context in which he said those words.

“I go to the Bible for truth, to understand what I am going to build my life on and the Bible makes it very clear that man is destined to die once and after that to face judgement. Damar Hamlin was brought back to life, but he is going to die. Current death rate is 100%. I am also going to die,” Cousins said in his whole speech.
