“Massive Fine, Minimal Suspension”: NFL is no longer insisting on INDEFINITE suspension in Deshaun Watson case

“Massive Fine, Minimal Suspension”: NFL is no longer insisting on INDEFINITE suspension in Deshaun Watson case

Deshaun Watson has been in the news in recent times for all the wrong reasons. He was alleged by several women on charges of molestation and sexual harassment a while ago and since then, Deshaun and his new team Cleveland Browns have faced a lot of flak from fans across the world.

Reportedly, the NFL was inclined on handing out severe punishment to Deshaun Watson for his involvement in the sexual harassment cases. As a matter of fact, it was reported by NFL Insider Charles Robinson a little while ago that the NFL has the option to either go with Sue Robinson’s decision on finalizing the punishment for Deshaun or ask for an year-long suspension in case the league isn’t satisfied with Robinson’s call.

When the speculations of NFL asking for a year-long suspension were on the rise, it was reported that in that case, Deshaun and his team, along with the NFLPA will sue the league and just after that, NFL Insider Mark Florio reported that Deshaun might face only a 2-8 game suspension.

As it turns out, NFL has softened its stance and is ready to scrap the idea of year long suspension. Instead, as reported by NFL Insider Dan Graziano, the league asked Deshaun to accept a hefty fine and a 12-game suspension. “Interesting that the league was no longer insisting on an indefinite suspension with right to apply for reinstatement after a certain number of games. But the heavy fine was the tradeoff and Watson/NFLPA balked at it,” Dan wrote on Twitter.

Without a doubt, the league’s stance has definitely changed a little after the recent twists in the case. While earlier it was depicted that the league is adamant when it comes to suspending Deshaun for the entire season, now it surely seems like a far-fetched idea. The judgment about what will happen with Deshaun isn’t far away and the Browns would be anxious.

Although they might not have to play without Deshaun for the entire season, losing him for even 8-10 games is a massive loss and might greatly bring down their chances of making it big in the coming season.
