After much negotiations and talks, the New York Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones have finally come to an understanding. Daniel Jones who was picked up as the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft has agreed to a new four year deal with the franchise.

Last season was a rather productive one for Daniel Jones as he worked in tandem with head coach Brian Daboll as he threw for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. Giants GM Joe Schoen met Daniel Jones at the NFL Combine last week wherein they worked out the kinks in the agreement.

Jones has signed a lucrative $160 million new contract which is confusing in some aspects as just last season they declined to Jones’ $22.4 million fifth-year option in his rookie contract. Now they have agreed to pay nearly double that amount annually.

While getting Daniel Jones to sign a new contract with them is definitely a positive for the New York Giants, they also had to do something about running back Saquon Barkley. The Giants have decided to award the franchise tag to Barkley instead which means he will be able to talk to other teams as well about a contract.

Saquon Barkley had a great season last year as he recorded 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns as well as catching 57 passes for 338 yards. It would mean good money as well for Barkley who can earn well over $10 million if he decides to play under the tag. Speaking on Barkley, Jones said he “means a ton to me as a teammate and as a friend and he means a ton to us as a player.”

“In a situation like this, you’re trying to do what’s best for you and your family while also balancing being part of a team and understanding the goals and the vision we have as a team,” Jones said. “That was certainly important to me throughout the deal. I think we found a way to do both those things and to do it the right way for both sides. That was certainly important to me.”

Jones reiterates that finding the best solution for the team was the most important thing for him and the fact that the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year ( Barkley) was also affected during this deal meant a great lot.
