Michael Lombardi believes Colts GM Chris Ballard should pursue Lamar Jackson instead of rookies like CJ Stroud or Anthony Richardson

Lamar Jackson has been involved in a massive contract dispute since the start of the offseason. The talented QB was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018 and since then has been a revelation for them.

However, his rookie contract had expired, and the Ravens didn’t want to pay him the guaranteed contract money he desired. This led to him being franchise tagged. Now, Jackson is steadily looking for another team to call home, which will pay him well for his services.

Amid all this fiasco, NFL analyst Michael Lombardi strongly urges the Indianapolis Colts to move in for Jackson and sign him as their QB. Lombardi believes that the recent Jalen Hurts contract extension has come as a blessing in disguise for the Colts. Recently, the Eagles QB signed a $255 million deal for 5 years, which had $179 million in guaranteed money.

According to Lombardi, the Colts now have a bargaining chip to sign Jackson. They can use the new Hurts contract as an example and sway the MVP winner in their direction instead of going for inexperienced QBs like Anthony Richardson and CJ Stroud.

“If I’m Chris Ballard I’m getting on an airplane and making an offer to Lamar Jackson tho,” Michael Lombardi stated on the Pat McAfee Show. “I would show him the Jalen Hurts contract, I think this contract with Hurts opens doors for a conversation with Jackson.”

Michael Lombardi urges the Colts to sign Lamar Jackson

Jackson is an established QB in the NFL who is troubled with the team he’s currently at. This gives the Colts a strong possibility of swaying the quality QB in their direction.

Michael Lombardi believes that Jackson can make the Colts relevant again and help them challenge the division. The Indianapolis-based team has a 4th overall pick in this year’s NFL draft and instead of signing an inexperienced rookie, they should go for Jackson.

However, Lombardi also stated that if the Colts were to draft a QB, then they should immediately go for CJ Stroud if he is available, but Lamar Jackson should always be their first priority.

Lamar Jackson’s situation is highly precarious now as everyone has tried to determine the future of the talented QB. Many still believe that he’ll stay with the Ravens despite everything.
