Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game of football. After having an illustrious career that spanned over two decades, Brady has finally announced his retirement from the sport that he was obsessed with. Following his retirement, many NFL players have paid their tributes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback but Mike Francesa couldn’t help himself but throw oil on Brady’s retirement ceremony.
Famous Sports Radio Host, Mike Francesa joined Stephen A. Smith and Chris Russo on ESPN Show First Take, where he talked about Tom Brady‘s career following his retirement announcement. Francesa said that Brady was the most competitive player he’s ever seen and losing his starting QB job at the University of Michigan was what fueled him his whole career.
“Tom Brady made himself great,” Francesa said. “He wasn’t great. He wasn’t great in college, he lost his job, which is what fueled him his whole life, he was the most competitive person anybody ever met and he worked harder than anybody ever to be this good.
For context, Brady was not really a well-sought-after prospect coming out of college, he was taken as the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. Moreover, he was the sixth quarterback taken that year which had a below-average QB class.
Mike Francesa says Peyton Manning and Joe Montana were better than Tom Brady
Mike Francesa further said that Brady is neither the best regular season QB nor the best Super Bowl he’s ever seen but was simply the guy who played long enough to win the most games of all quarterbacks.
“He’s not the best regular season quarterback I’ve ever seen, Peyton Manning was. He’s not the best Super Bowl quarterback who ever lived, Joe Montana is. What he is though is the guy who played the longest, and he won the most games. He won the most Super Bowls so he will be remembered because nobody’s gonna play 23 years and nobody’s probably ever gonna have a chance to win that many Super Bowls, it’s almost impossible to do, he was in the right place with a right coach,” said Francesa in a recent episode of First Take.
And, the show host Stephen A. Smith and the other guest Chris Russo agreed with Francesa’s point about Brady not being the best. However, many NFL players who played with or against him believe his the Greatest of All Time.
