“I’m not going to deny it,” Steelers HC Mike Tomlin discloses BIG details on rumoured locker room fight between Mitch Trubisky and Diontae Johnson
The Pittsburgh Steelers were among one of the franchises who did not disclose their starting quarterback for the season even during the offseason. Mike Tomlin cleared it very late before eventually naming Mitch Trubisky for the position ahead of rookie QB Kenny Pickett.
Trubisky started for the Steelers for the first four encounters before being subbed off during their Week-4 defeat against the New York Jets. While it was presumed to be a tactical change made by Tomlin at the time, new details have been released soon about the substitution.
Mike Tomlin took a big call to replace Mitch Trubisky after the first half against New York Jets
It has been reported that there was a massive fight that took place within the locker rooms of the Steelers during the halftime break during their clash against the Jets. Diontae Johnson reportedly shouted at Mitch Trubisky for not reaching enough targets.
Trubisky too had his say on Johnson’s performance, and a fight emerged within the locker room. This information was leaked, and the questions began to flood in for head coach Mike Tomlin after the game, which surprisingly the head coach did not try to deny.
“The things that happen among competitors from time to time is normal business. Everyone wants to win,” Tomlin said. “If it transpired, good. That probably means there are a couple of guys that want to win. If it didn’t transpire, it probably means that it should have because we are aggressively pursuing victory. Sometimes that’s emotional.”
Tomlin’s reaction to the question sparked more rumors, and it is highly likely that a fight had taken place. The head coach, however, tried to diffuse the situation by stating that a fight emerging in the locker room might be because of a competitive nature within the squad.
