“You’re not gonna have it,” Mike Tomlin offers a cryptic response regarding Steelers’ No.1 QB position ahead of NFL opener

The NFL preseason teaches a lot to the coaches of an organization. The games in the preseason serve as a factor of team chemistry and set a benchmark for how the team will perform in the regular season. The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a gaping hole in the starting quarterback area since the Ben Roethlisberger era.

All is not dark in Pittsburgh as the pre-season has shown the fans and the community that the Steelers have some promising pieces, who can take up the position of starting quarterback for the 2022 NFL season.

Mike Tomlin speaks to the media regarding who will be given the reins for the season opener

Mitchell Trubisky with the steelers.

Mike Tomlin was asked the said question after their game with the lions to which he said, “I might, but you guys are not gonna have it today,” Tomlin told reporters.

“Again, like I told you guys the other week, man, we’re not gonna make knee-jerk reactions or statements following a performance. We’ll go through our proper professional procedure. We’ll evaluate the game. We’ll meet with our front-office people. We’ll have discussions. We’ll talk internally. We’ll talk about external possibilities. We’ll go through our normal procedure this time of year. And we’ll disclose it to you at our leisure, to be quite honest with you.”

The fans had Kenny Pickett as the favourite to be the starting QB but the excellent performance delivered by Mitchell Trubisky has got them wondering if the Steelers would be better off with Trubisky as the starter. In his(Trubisky) first two August games, the former starter for the Chicago Bears, who spent last season as a backup with the Buffalo Bills, wasn’t terrible.

He threw for 123 yards and a score on 9 of his 15 completions. With his most recent public remarks, the 28-year-old seems to argue for why he should replace Pickett, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.

Tomlin is playing his cards close to his vest and has gone silent but the fact still remains that all 2 of the Steelers’ potential starting QB’s have given good performances and are both potential-laden players who could emerge as real stars in the NFL one day.
