Nelson Agholor was once expected to be one of the most promising WRs in the league. The 2015 NFL draft pick showed lots of promise after being drafted by the Eagles.
Agholor also won the Super Bowl with the Eagles and during that time he was considered an elite WR that was swift and mobile in extreme spaces. This performance helped him land a big-money move to the Raiders. However, this is where his performance started to drop slightly.
The 29-year old WR spent a season in Las Vegas and then moved to the Patriots for greener pastures. Agholor signed a big money contract with the Patriots that was worth $22 million for two years.
However, this proved to be a disastrous investment for the New England based team as Agholor just caught 69 total passes for 835 yards while scoring 5 touchdowns in the entirety of two seasons with the Patriots.
Agholor was the highest paid WR in the team by a mile, still he was the 5th best in the team in terms of statistical output. This led to the Patriots being frustrated of his output and the WR had to move to the Ravens.
Following two disappointing seasons with the Patriots, Agholor has taken a massive pay cut to accommodate himself in a team. The Ravens are clearly the winners of this deal as they have signed a decent WR for just a one-year $3.25 million deal.
The Ravens have placed their bet on the declining Nelson Agholor
Nelson Agholor is currently not the WR that he once was when he won the Super Bowl with the Eagles. His form seriously declined after joining the Patriots and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll find his form soon. Many reasons apply for this but the primary is the disputed QB position in the Ravens organization.
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has been in a contract dispute with his team for quite some time now. It is highly essential that a team has a decent QB to get the desired outcome from their WRs.
Regardless, even if that’ not the concern it’s tough to assume that Nelson Agholor will be at his top-notch form once the season starts. The WR has had a string of dissapointing performances and he will surely take some time to get back to his form. Until then, the Ravens can only hope for the best.
