The Baltimore Ravens are being dismantled in the offseason. The team has lost two key players to free agency already so far: safety Geno Stone and most recently, John Simpson, the team’s veteran offensive lineman.

While Stone signed with the Cincinnati Bengals for $15 million, Simpson is now off to go play in the Big Apple alongside Aaron Rodgers.

The New York Jets have begun to strengthen their offensive line. The team struggled the entire season due to a weak O-line, which resulted in the team’s offense failing to perform. In many ways, Aaron Rodgers‘ Achilles injury was a boon for the team because the quarterback would have struggled had he played the season with that O-line.

Now that Aaron Rodgers is set to return, the Jets are scrambling to build a solid offensive line for him. John Simpson was one of the first signings for the team. He has agreed to a two-year deal and will be paid up to $18 million. The offensive lineman started every game at the left guard position last season.

John Simpson has been a consistent and reliable player

He will turn 27 this year and rank 24th in his position in terms of pass block win rate and 67th amongst his peers in run block win rate.

Simpson played 1,159 snaps in total but was flagged for 10 penalties and faced six holding calls. While he brings consistency to the table, he comes with his own set of drawbacks. However, those can be worked on in the offseason.

Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s how fans responded to the news of his signing online:

While John Simpson is off to a good start, the team needs to revamp the entire offensive line. Now that the Green Bay Packers have released OT David Bakhtiari, there is a strong possibility of him reuniting with Aaron Rodgers in New York. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
