On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles led by their star quarterback Jalen Hurts went against the defending NFC West champions San Francisco 49ers in their week 13 matchup. The tempers were flaring high during the much-anticipated game, resulting in a huge fight breaking out in the middle of the game. The Eagles’ head coach, Nick Sirianni, was right in the middle of the crowd during the tense moment.
During the 3rd quarter of the game, the Eagles were trailing by 15 points and were trying to put some more points on the board. In the crucial period, the 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw picked up the Eagles wideout DeVonta Smith and threw him into the ground in an attempt to tackle him. This happened right in front of Philadelphia’s sideline and head coach.
The hard tackle resulted in a 15-yard penalty, but an already frustrated Sirianni wasn’t happy with the hard tackle. He got right into the face of a referee and started screaming at him. Furthermore, Philly’s chief security officer Dom DiSandro also got in the action and tried to stand up for his player. Check out the video footage attached below.
Nonetheless, the fight got a little out of hand before the referees managed to separate both teams’ players. After de-escalating the situation, the refs ejected the Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw and Philly’s chief security officer Dom DiSandro for escalating the situation, which could’ve resulted in an ugly brawl.
DiSandro left the sidelines with a huge cheer from Philadelphia’s home crowd at the Lincoln Financial Field. This brawl was bound to happen between the two teams since they had been chirping at each other for almost a year now. However, on the field, the 49ers were able to avenge their NFC Championship game loss with a massive victory on Sunday.
Nick Sirianni reacts to Eagles’ red zone woes against the Niners
After being involved in trash talks with the 49ers the entire off-season, Nick Sirianni and the Eagles failed to execute their plans against them in their week 13 matchup and suffered a humiliating loss at their home field.
And now, following the loss, the Eagles’ head coach claims they didn’t coach it well or execute it well in the red zone, leading to a poor performance against one of the best teams in the league.
We had some red zone woes right there that we've done a much better job of and then today, they stopped us in the red zone. But hats off to them. They did a good job in the red zone. And again, we didn't coach it well enough or execute it well enough.Sirianni in the post-game presser
Nonetheless, the Eagles still have the No.1 seed in the NFC playoffs picture despite their embarrassing loss on Sunday. Next, they are scheduled to face their division rivals Dallas Cowboys, in their week 14 game.
