“There’s a lot of stuff that has to be worked through”: Cooper Kupp is not optimistic about Odell Beckham Jr’s odds of being an LA Ram

The Los Angeles Rams had a fairytale ending to their Super Bowl run in 2022, the team started off by betting big on Matthew Stafford, a quarterback who had never been considered to be someone who can lead a team to a Super Bowl victory, and the season started off on a high note when Cooper Kupp and Matt Stafford developed this perfect chemistry that signaled they were the perfect fit and reassured the Rams front office that their bet was paying dividends. It did not end here, LA had a stellar defense with Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey who not only perform on the field but are vocal leaders in the locker room, they added Von Miller, an experienced veteran and a former Super Bowl MVP which further solidified their defense.
On the offensive side of things, despite Cooper Kupp being the primary weapon, teams were beginning to double him and try to shut him down at every turn possible which meant the Rams needed another talented star to help him, and who better than Odell Beckham Jr.? OBJ wanted out of Cleveland, it was not working between him and Baker Mayfield, and the Rams were just the team he was looking for. The rest is history, OBJ had a good season with the team and even caught a TD in the Super Bowl but unfortunately, his season was cut short when he tore his ACL in the most crucial game of his life.

“He was gonna have an UNBELIEVABLE game that Super Bowl”: Cooper Kupp believes Odell Beckham Jr. would have won the MVP if not for his injury

OBJ is once again a free agent, though he is a Super Bowl champ and a father now, he has to think about what the future holds for him and which team is the best fit for him. In all likelihood he will sign back with the Rams as he loves it in LA, it is the perfect city for a guy with his personality but the team will not be able to pay him big amounts considering they already have multiple stars with huge contracts on their payroll.
Cooper Kupp recently appeared on First Take, he genuinely wants OBJ to come back and hopes that the team signs him again. “That would be the coolest thing (OBJ coming back), what he was for us last year, what he was able to do coming into this offense, learning it, and being able to execute it the way he did was absolutely incredible. Just as a person, as a teammate, as he was in our building, I would love nothing more than to have him come back and be a part of what we are building here, and I talk to him daily, would love to have him back.” Kupp clearly wants OBJ back as he thinks it will help the team go on a Super Bowl run once more, the wideout goes on to talk about his devastating injury and the impact that it had.
“There’s a lot of stuff that has to be worked through because of just how terrible and unfortunate the situation where he was gonna have an unbelievable game that Super Bowl, the way that things were trending and the way the Bengals were playing against the gameplan that we had in for him to be able to go off that game. It kills me the way that the whole thing worked out.”
Kupp believes that a healthy OBJ in the Super Bowl would have likely performed better than him in the Super Bowl and even won the MVP as that was the biggest game of his life and he wanted to stand out in that performance.
Despite all of this, we have not heard any talks from OBJ or the Rams on any extension talks yet, the Rams are focussing on retaining Matt Stafford and drawing up a new contract for Aaron Donald at the moment. The team has made substantial additions to its offense as well by adding Allen Robinson as another threat. Only time will tell if Odell will remain in LA or not.
