Looks like Pat McAfee isn’t going to rest until he silences all the critics of his favorite Brock Purdy. And first on his list is Shannon Sharpe. Throughout the season, he didn’t spare a moment to acknowledge the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who led his team to the Super Bowl, just in his second year as a starter.

Calling Purdy the best quarterback in the NFL may sure be an exaggeration, but no one can deny the fact that since the 24-year-old took over, the Niners have entered a new era of dominance. However, his critics don’t seem to agree much with that notion. That’s why, the ESPN analyst once again had to come in Purdy’s defense during a recent conversation with Sharpe and Stephen A. Smith

McAfee said on The Pat McAfee Show:

You [Shannon Sharpe] are the best guy in this business, you and Stephen A., so whenever you say something everybody needs it. Listen and I respect and appreciate your brain, your beautiful teeth, love nightcap, and everything.

He went on to add:

But I think what you are saying about Brock Purdy is out of pocket. I will tell you why. I heard you say something like this. His critics could watch Brock Purdy could walk on water and y’all will say it's because he doesn't know how to swim.

McAfee highlighted Purdy’s achievements in his second year; despite having a salary in chunks he can’t even afford a good place as he still lives with his roommate. This season, the Niners’ QB led the NFL in almost every stat like third down, red zone, fourth down, and yards per attempt, but still, pundits call him “check-down king.”

Brock Purdy’s historic outing in the NFC title game

The biggest reason why McAfee didn’t appreciate the critics’ obdurate opinions of the quarterback is because Purdy’s stats speak for themselves. The Pat McAfee Show host applauded Purdy’s historical outing in the NFC championship game, something that hasn’t been seen in three decades.

McAfee said:

In the second half of the NFC championship game, not just a basic a** regular season game, not the divisional round, not ball part. In the second half of the NFC game, he did something that no quarterback has done in 30 years.

The second-year quarterback finished the second half of the game completing 13 out of his 16 passes for 174 yards along with one touchdown and a passer rating of 132.8.
