MVP candidate Patrick Mahomes recently spoke about Tom Brady’s retirement ahead of his Super Bowl LVII appearance. Aged 45, Brady announced his retirement from professional football a couple of days ago. This was Brady’s second retirement, as he has already announced his retirement last year only to come back a few weeks later.

Brady didn’t have a great 2022 season by his high standards and after his terrible outing against the Cowboys in the wildcard playoff round, retirement talks started circling around. While Brady’s retirement wasn’t a huge surprise, it was definitely an emotional moment for everyone, considering he won’t come back from retirement this time.

Patrick Mahomes spoke about Brady on First Things First and even compared him to Michael Jordan. He said that Brady has a little bit of Jordan in him and the will to win is what makes him great. He said that Brady had the ability to punch above his weight and, despite not having the best arm or mobility, he effectively used his strengths.

“He has a little bit of that Jordan in him. That will win and that will to be the best. I think that’s what makes Tom so great. Even though he might not have the best arm or the best mobility, he’s still really good at both of those things,” Mahomes said.

Talking about whether he intends to chase Brady to become the GOAT himself, he said that any athlete wants to be the best ever, and that’s what he wants to do. He added that despite his aspirations; he knows how difficult it is to do it. Brady has won 7 rings and has made it to 10 Super Bowls and as of now, the mere thought of it sounds impossible to Mahomes, but he still wants to take it step by step.

“Any athlete wants to be the best ever at their position. I want to be, but I understand how hard it’s going to be. Tom Brady going to 10 Super Bowls & winning 7, it seems impossible. All I can do is take it day by day. He is the GOAT, and someone that I want to try to chase, but I know it’s a long way away for me, and I just have to continue to win football games,” he added.

Patrick Mahomes will look to win his second ring in a week’s time when he faces the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. Kansas City Chiefs have made it to 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls and would desperately want to make amends from their last outing at the biggest stage.
