A few weeks ago, the 7-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady stirred up the pot by saying that there’s a lot of mediocrity in the NFL currently. Later, former NFL quarterback Alex Smith hit back at Brady by saying that the New England Patriots QB played in one of the easiest divisions in the league’s history. And now, Brady’s former Patriots teammate Julian Edelman has clapped back at Smith for downplaying Brady’s achievements in the sport.
During a recent episode of former NFL MVP Cam Newton’s “4th And 1” podcast, Edelman sounded off on Smith for criticizing his teammate and one of his best friends.
Alex Smith is not even that guy ... You're not THAT guy, pal. You're not that guy, Alex. I love watching the comeback commercials ... You're not that guy to talk about the GOAT like that.Edelman said on 4th And 1 podcast
Furthermore, the legendary wide receiver made sure to note how the former 1st overall pick Alex Smith lost his job to Colin Kaepernick and how Tom Brady and the Patriots beat him in the playoffs.
At the end, Alex Smith did really well ... But Kap [Kaepernick] came in and took it and then he came over and played with the Chiefs. We played him a couple times in playoffs and knocked them out. So I mean, it was easy to get there I guess. You were part of that road.Edelman said
No one would be surprised by Julian Edelman having the back of his former teammate Brady. After all, they played together in New England for more than a decade and dominated the league.
What did Alex Smith say about Tom Brady?
After Tom Brady publicly called out the mediocrity in the league, many people shared their opinions on his take. Among one of them is the ESPN analyst and former NFL player Alex Smith.

During an episode of ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown,” Smith blasted Brady and said that he played in the easiest division. Smith even insinuated Brady was mediocre since he played in the AFC East for more than 2 decades.
My biggest complain in this … is he played in the most uncompetitive division, I think, in NFL history. You come out of training camp and you’ve got a ticket to the playoffs right away. Talk about mediocre.Smith said on ESPN
While it is true Brady played in the AFC East, he still had to face the best of the best in the postseason and he conquered them all on his way to 7 Super Bowl rings. Besides, Brady only has a losing record against 2 teams in the entire league. So it is pretty clear Brady rammed down his opponents irrespective of their divisions.
