NFL Preseason 2022: Kansas City Chiefs vs Chicago Bears Prediction, Preview, Top Picks

Justin Fields and Patrick Mahomes

Football is finally here even though it’s just preseason games that we can get right now. Still, a match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Bears gives us a few betting opportunities. So our crew has prepared a few Chiefs vs. Bears predictions for you.

We don’t expect to see great football, but great NFL odds is what we are after. Even though the quality isn’t going to be great, we still think we can handicap this game and land the best odds for the Bears vs Chiefs matchup. So here are our Chiefs vs, Bears picks.

Chiefs vs Bears Predictions: A preview of the current situation

Handicapping preseason games is hard. Many ‘’sharps’’ will tell you about teams record on turf versus grass. They will also tell you about the ATS record of one team against the other in regular seasons and in playoffs. In truth, none of that matters because preseason has nothing to do with stats generated in the regular season.

We know full well that the Bears are in a rebuilding mode. The hiring of Matt Eberflus as a head coach is a testament to all that. The team is looking to add fresh faces to the already young roster. All of that, however, comes with very little certainty about the success of the franchise’s future.

The Bears have only 16 players under contract beyond this season. This pretty much means that the rebuild will continue over next season too.

The young offensive core consists of:

The team will have issues on the defensive side for sure, though. There’s very little talent on that side of the ball and to make things worse, star linebacker Roquan Smith requested a trade in the week leading up to the first preseason game.

All of the above shows us that the win total set by the bookies at O/U 6.5 for the Bears might actually be a very generous number. The team is not only not ready to win games, it looks like the rebuild will continue over the next season as well. Because of that we simply cannot lean to Chicago in our Chiefs vs. Bears predictions.

Will that affect the Chicago Bears odds in their game versus the Chiefs on August 13th? Yes, it certainly should, but so far the Bears are favored in the game by -3.5 points @ -110 according to BetMGM odds. We think this is only due to the fact that they are the home team.

How have the Kansas City Chiefs fared this offseason and will that affect the Chiefs vs. Bears picks?

Travis Kelce

The biggest move that the Chiefs made was actually a negative one as they parted ways with superstar wide receiver and ‘’number 1’’ target for Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill.

This will likely affect the explosiveness of the offense a little bit, but we simply cannot underestimate the following factors:

  • Patrick Mahomes’ talent
  • The offensive mind of Andy Reid
  • Travis Kelce’s presence
  • The new wide receivers that the team signed/drafted

The current Kansas City betting line in this preseason game, set by BetMGM, is +3.5 @ -110 and we find big value in it.

The team signed Juju Smith-Schuster and drafter Skyy Moore at Wide receiver. Furthermore, the Chiefs had a very good draft when it came to defensive players. Trent McDuffle (1st round CB), George Karlaftis (1st round DE) and linebackers Jermaine Carter, and Elijah Lee are some of the new names on defense. They will all have to gain some experience, so we expect to see them on the field for a good portion of the game. They key thing here is that these are likely starts for the Chiefs in the regular season too.

Our top Chiefs vs. Bears Picks for the game on August 13th

We are giving away not one but two picks for this game and we have good reasons to think both will hit.

Point Spread Pick: Kansas City Chiefs + 3.5 @ -110

Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs

This is a pretty straightforward Chiefs vs. Bears pick. Kansas City simply has the more talented roster overall. What matters in the preseason is the talent of your second and third string players, specifically on the offensive line. In this contest, the Chiefs’ O-line is the one with slightly more experience. Yes, many of the players are still young but they already had a year together under their belt.

Another point is that in a preseason game where we cannot predict the lineups with certainty and we also cannot predict the motivation of the teams, the value is always on the team getting the points. Any Reid is 49% in preseason ATS 41-42-4 so since we get about 50-50 chance to hit, we might as well take the points.

That’s not all when it comes to our Chiefs vs. Bears picks. See below!

The best Chiefs vs. Bears prediction on the total

Shane Buechele

The current total is set to O/U 35.0 @ -110, and we think it’s pretty steep. Both teams may play some starters in the first couple of drives but there’s little chance we will see Mahomes take the field. Even if the Bears come out with some first-string players, we fully expect the Chiefs defense to come out with a lot of energy and to shut down Chicago’s starters.

We also will likely see Shane Buechele and Dustin Crum plenty under center for the Chiefs. Cha Henne being the backup QB will probably play a few snaps and we might never see Mahomes touch a ball at all. All of that takes a lot of points off the board because those QBs are simply not the most impressive ones you can see play.
