Rashee Rice‘s attorney, Royce West, claimed that the media is deliberately painting a bad picture of his client, even though the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver rammed his Lamborghini SUV on Saturday evening. Rice and a few others were speeding on the North Central Highway in Dallas when his car swerved, hitting the guard rail.
Bystanders saw as many as five people leaving the scene of the accident. The Dallas Police issued a lookout notice for Rice and the other occupants of the cars.
Since then, big names like Keyshawn Johnson have expressed their disappointment in the 23-year-old’s irresponsible behavior. However, West claimed that Rice made a mistake that had been blown out of proportion because there were no casualties.
West wants the media to focus more on the Richland Native’s journey rather than maligning his identity.
Why don't you do a story of who he [Rashee Rice] is as opposed to what occurred? Because it seems as though what you're saying is based on this one incident, you're going to define him based on this incident as opposed to his entire body of work.Royce West via PJ Green of FOX4KC
Royce West faced heat on social media while trying to gather sympathy for Rashee Rice
When speaking about Rice’s situation on Undisputed, Keyshawn Johnson pointed out that one only needs to remember what happened with former Las Vegas Raiders player Henry Ruggs. Even though there were no casualties and the victims managed to escape with minor injuries, the memory of the accident is enough to cause PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
One of the victims, a mother of a 4-year-old, revealed no one came to check on them when the dust settled. They were rescued when the Dallas Fire Department and the police arrived.
While Royce West may try his best to attract sympathy from people, when lives are at stake, he can’t expect things to go his way. Check out below how netizens reacted to West’s comments:
A few days after the accident, Rashee Rice apologized for his actions. Reports surfaced that the SMU graduate is cooperating with the authorities in charge.
Rice became a Chiefs player in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He was one of the main targets for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, registering 79 catches for 968 yards and 7 touchdowns en route to his first Super Bowl ring.
