The NFL officiating has been pretty bad and inconsistent throughout this season. In that trend, the refs missed a blatant facemask penalty on Browns QB Deshaun Watson in their game against the Steelers in week 18.
Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns capped off their abysmal 7-10 season with a defeat against the Steelers. Watson started this season with an 11-game suspension due to sexual assault allegations. The 27-year-old QB was accused by 24 different women of sexual assault during his time with the Houston Texans. Furthermore, Watson was declared not guilty by the grand jury in his trial for criminal charges.
However, the NFL held him accountable and served him with an 11-game suspension, which he served. Since his return, Watson has thrown for 1,102 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 58.2% of his passes. It’s been a rough year for the Clemson product who also threw five interceptions in his six games this season.
In their season finale, the Browns went against the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the third quarter of the game, when the Browns were trying to erase a 13-point deficit, the refs missed a blatant facemask penalty committed by the Steelers’ defender Larry Ogunjobi on Deshaun Watson. The DT grabbed Watson’s helmet and pulled him down to the ground.
Social media roasts Browns QB Deshaun Watson

Typically, when the officials make a bad call, the NFL fans on social would be quick to thrash the referees but after the refs missed a blatant call on the Browns QB, the fans were surprisingly celebrating.
The NFL fans and most others in general hate Deshaun Watson due to all the sexual assault allegations. 24 women have accused the quarterback of sexually assaulting them during his massage sessions and the fans were roasting him for it.
Even though a grand jury declined to indict and criminally charge Watson on the sexual assault charges, many people believe 24 is a little too much for all of them to be false allegations.
The Cleveland Browns traded for Watson with the Houston Texans. The Cleveland-based franchise had to give up a lot, including three first-round picks to the Texans to land their franchise quarterback. Moreover, the Browns also paid $230 million, fully guaranteed to tie Watson for 5 years with their football team.
While it may sound like they gave up a lot, they still have a lot of talent all across the field and just need a couple more pieces to finish their puzzle. The Browns would look to complete the puzzle quickly in hopes of winning the Super Bowl within the next four years.
