Lamar Jackson is currently having a hard time getting a long-term deal done with the Baltimore Ravens. Since he doesn’t have an agent, the NFL reporters have very little information about the contract talks between both parties, which has led to contrasting theories from the experts.

Many experts claim that the former league MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson is asking for a fully guaranteed contract that exceeds the pay grade of the Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson just to make a statement. According to reports, the 2-time Pro Bowler rejected a 4-year $200 million contract in hopes of getting fully guaranteed money.

But some other people, including the renowned ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, claim that Jackson never asked for a fully guaranteed deal. Furthermore, there are many other contradicting theories running wild in the league about Jackson’s deal. NBC Sports analyst Mike Florio even claimed that Jackson is struggling to get a good deal done because of him not being represented by a professional agent.

The former All-Pro quarterback is one of only 17 players in the NFL who is not represented by an agent. Jackson represents himself with the help of his mother Felicia Jones. Some other notable players without agents are free agent linebacker Bobby Wagner and Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins.

The renowned NFL insider Ian Rapoport recently made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show to talk about the upcoming off-season. During the episode, he gave his insights about Lamar Jackson’s contract situation after being asked about the proposed $133 million contract by the Ravens.

“If it’s $133 million fully guaranteed on a six-year deal, how much is that really giving him? That gives the team a lot of control,” said Rapoport on the Pat McAfee Show. “What I’m saying is that injury guaranteed matters, the overall matters, so you can’t get a full picture of the contract that was offered to Lamar Jackson without knowing all the information”

As it stands, NFL reporters don’t know a lot of details about the trade talks between both parties and it will continue to be a hot topic in the upcoming off-season for quite some time.

However, the Ravens would want to finish the deal as soon as possible to focus on putting a team around their QB, so if the Ravens and Lamar Jackson can’t reach a middle ground soon, the Baltimore-based franchise will most likely use the franchise tag on their star quarterback in the next few days.
