Denver Broncos at Seattle, is the Broncos MNF game really a revenge game for Russell Wilson?

Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks

It’s the start of a new year, not a calendar year, I am talking about the NFL year. The league officially released the schedule for all the 32 teams earlier this week and this has us excited as the league has made some amazing matchups that are guaranteed to attract an immense amount of viewership. One of the games that stood out is the Denver Broncos season opener, it is not often that we get to see a classic revenge game in the very first week of the NFL season. Russell Wilson and his Broncos will face off against the Seattle Seahawks, a team that Wilson has been with ever since he was drafted and also won a Super Bowl with.

This game has been dubbed as a revenge game for the most part, but is it really one? Russell Wilson and his Broncos are looking forward to this season. The team’s roster on paper looks amazing, on the offensive end, with Wilson, Melvin Gordon, Jerry Jeudy, and Courtland Sutton, the Broncos seem to have no issues whatsoever in terms of scoring. On the defensive end as well, Denver has a great team with talented backs such as Patrick Surtain II. However, the expectations this season for the Broncos are high, to be more precise, the expectations on Wilson are bigger than ever as he is the best QB that team has had since Peyton Manning, a certified Hall of Famer, and a revered figure within the Broncos organization.

Russell Wilson is a winner irrespective of the outcome of this opener:

The Denver Broncos are more motivated than ever, going by the players’ words themselves, Jerry Jeudy, the WR for the team believes that Wilson is the one piece that they needed in order to become Super Bowl contenders. However, Wilson returns to Seattle to face a rather shaky Seahawks team. Pete Carroll is left with the remnants of what was once an amazing team that made the Super Bowl, with Geno Smith as his starting QB, it is rather hard for Seattle as well as analysts to determine where the team stands offensively.

Smith has been on the Jets and Chargers, and now is the starter for the Seahawks due to Wilson’s departure, however, he does not have the best numbers. Though I hope Geno has a sensational year and hopefully wins the Most Improved Player, it is hard to believe that it is a plausible scenario. Geno is at best average but he does have weapons at his disposal, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, that is a dream come true for Geno. These boys can run through a wall if need be. However, it always depends on if Geno can build some chemistry with them. DK Metcalf in the latest episode of Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe stood by his QB Geno, however, there is a very high chance that if Geno does not perform well enough, the Seahawks could consider trading for Baker Mayfield.

The Seahawks franchise has been a mess ever since Russell Wilson got traded, so in my personal opinion, this cannot be called a revenge game. He is clearly playing against a team that is at a disadvantage, though they sent Wilson packing, it is because they decided that they want to rebuild.

Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett
Geno Smith has talented wideouts but will he be able to utilize them to their full extent or not, time will tell

The clear prediction is that Russell Wilson and his Broncos will walk all over the Seattle Seahawks, however, if by any shot the team fails to close this game, it will be due to the lack of chemistry between Wilson and his new wideouts. Jeudy is an amazing route runner, Courtland Sutton can cook the best of DBs.

However, what happens at the training camp and what happens during an actual game will be different. Add the fact that Pete Carroll, the coach of the Seahawks knows how Wilson thinks, so it could be a really hard matchup for him. Don’t get it twisted, it is not because the Seahawks are better but it is because the team knows Wilson and how he thinks better than anyone else.

The only reason this game can even be considered as a revenge game is because of Russell Wilson being a QB, if Wilson played any other position, this game would not be hyped as much. Nevertheless, it is an exciting game, and my prediction is that the Broncos will beat the Seahawks, it will be a close game till the end.

What do you think will happen, will Geno and them boys surprise us or will Wilson’s experience prevail? Do let us know?
